Doula is a Greek word for "woman servant".

A Birth Doula tends to the mother's physical and emotional needs during labour and delivery. Studies show that births attended by doulas  have fewer medical interventions and, possibly, decreased labouring time thus creating a more satisfying birth experience for the mother and her partner.

A Postpartum Doula also tends to the physical and emotional needs of a new mother. During the postpartum period moms often need support and guidance with breastfeeding, newborn care, light housekeeping or sleep!

At York Region Doula Services, my main goal is to help women achieve a satisfying birth and postpartum period

I am a Registered Practical Nurse and a trained doula(DONA). Most importantly, I am the mother of 4 children.

Currently registered with: The College of Nurses, Doulas of North America (DONA), Doula C.A.R.E., Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA) and I hold Level "C" Certification in CPR.

A Doula's role during childbirth and in the postpartum period is to Mother the Mother. I recognize each woman's birth as unique and personal. My goal as a Doula is to help each of my clients obtain a satisfying birth experience, as they envision it. I understand that childbirth is a lifelong memory, and my goal is to support you in creating your memories.

Dads and Doulas

As recently as 30 years ago, partners were not permitted in the delivery room in a traditional childbirth setting. Since then, we have not only granted access to fathers, but we expect them to understand what a labouring woman is feeling and how to help them cope! As a Doula, I am not interested in replacing your partner. My interest lies in supporting and strengthening your bond during this milestone in your relationship. Dads and Doulas form a very important team during childbirth and most partners are surprised at how relieved they feel to have support. Sometimes, dads are not comfortable with some of the procedures a labouring mom has to endure and they can't tolerate being in the room. Other times, parents with other children at home find hiring a Doula provides a sense of relief because they know that the partner can go home during a lengthy labour to tend to them. Once I am called to a birth, I will not leave.
